The collision was involving a left hand turn by a driver in front of my son.   I called for legal consul imediately for "Mike".  We had to wait for 90 days for an investigative report to be finished.  Why did I feel I would want attorneys?  Because the driver was not cited at the scene and I knew something was drastically wrong or "amiss".  Why was the driver not charged when he tried to flee the scene?  Why were parents a no show at the scene, to retrieve their minor son who caused the accident.  Why were local authorities resistant to prosecute?
My son was dead, I would have to get answers!

I was not the only person to ask serious questions.  I was not the only person to question the final report.  I was aware there were possible issues the CHP did not know about when they issued the report.  I would have to do the work myself  - with attorneys  - to get answers  -- and filing a Wrongful Death Lawsuit to "establish liability",  was just about my only recourse.     I would have walked a million miles  - & gone the distance  to find answers and truth, for my son.  The suit was filed when local authorities were resistant to arrest or prosecute the driver for vehicular manslaughter.

CHP investigation and report finalized in late Dec early Jan 2004
Attorney's start preparations and filing for lawsuit immediately. 

When the verdict of "guilty" was rendered by the jury, of course the defense appealed (confident they would win as their appeal lawyer had not lost an appeal.  Again the wheels of the courts (justice...?) move slowly.  They did lose the appeal and the verdict against the young driver - who killed my son - was upheld.    My son is gone, his life taken from him, but his name is cleared, and a message is sent to the driver and the insurance companies who spend $$ - millions to defend those at fault.   Verdict recorded Fall 2008.       And a mother "grieves".
